About the Western New York High Performance Networked Video Initiative
WNY-HPNVI is a fairly unique association of technology early adopters, technical specialists, and business partners who are cooperating across normally competitive boundaries to build a regional high performance networked video (HPNV) infrastructure for the delivery of healthcare, education, and government services. A publicly accessible regional “sandbox” of HPNV infrastructure components has been funded by the group and is just now coming online. Initial use will be for extended (medical) grand rounds and various other multi-institutional HPNV activities designed to bring many of the more vexing technology and policy problems associated with these technologies to the surface for resolution and work-arounds. The primary intent is to demonstrate proof-of-concept models and to evaluate alternative deployment and support strategies -- not to provide full production services. By-products of WNY-HPNVI activities appear to be the growth of a regional collaborative community with exciting potential for public gain and the formation of new local business partnerships that will offer more robust commercial support for successful applications.
